Practice Specialties

Relationship Therapy

  • As a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist since l994, I have been trained in the therapeutic approach described by Harville Hendrix in his book Getting the Love You Want.

  • My specialty is in helping people restore and create conscious, intentional relationships. Much of my practice is focused on working with couples in crisis or seeking deeper intimacy and enrichment. I also work with couples considering committed partnership and marriage or who are newly wed

  • My current training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a researched-based approach developed by Susan Johnson, has expanded my effectiveness in helping couples shift from negative, stuck cycles to more positive and connecting patterns of interaction. A tenant of EFT, supported by research, is that emotionally fulfilling relationships are integral components of mental and physical health.

Individual Therapy

  • I continue to work with individuals to deal with relationship issues, family of origin issues, life transitions, losses, depression, anxiety, chronic emotional or physical illness and stress reactions. Individual clients often seek help to gain awareness of their own patterns that have led to unsuccessful relationships.

Treatment Orientation

  • I hold advanced clinical status, a credential awarded by the Institute for Imago Relational Therapy in recognition of the advanced training that I have completed. I also draw from many other therapeutic models, blending psychodynamic, object relations, and self psychology with family systems, cognitive, behavioral, relational recovery, emotionally focused and psychoeducational approaches as is helpful to an individual's and a couples' situation. I believe that the integrative approach can be the most comprehensive and hence the most effective.

  • In working with couples, I see myself as part educator and coach as well as therapist. I help clients to understand that relationships go through predictable stages, to develop knowledge about themselves and their relationship, and to become equipped with tools, skills and processes that help transform relationships.

  • While the therapeutic approach is very 'here and now' oriented, I help people stay curious about what the unresolved issues from the past might be that are contributing to ongoing conflicts in the present. I have marveled at the power that the Imago tools have in transforming relationships, but also in fostering deep individual healing and growth.
